Find future talent, support an ICT internship
Release Date: 15/05/2017 16:15
Career Ready have announced that they are looking for Manx employers in the IT sector who can host a student studying Computer Science.
This is a programme supported by MICTA and DED which prepares students for the world of work, but supplementing their academic studies with soft skill development, mentoring through their studies and a summer internship.
As an employer, you are asked to provide a mentor that the student meets with once a month to provide general guidance of the “ways of work” and also provide a 4-6 week paid work placement in the middle summer of their A-level course. This is your chance to spot future talent and see what a Career Ready student can do for you. Of course, these students aren’t undergraduates and they may need more support, but this allows your employees to enhance their development skills. Also you may be surprised how swiftly these students progress. With the right preparation, you will find that having a determined and able Career Ready student on your team is incredibly useful and rewarding.
Driving the future workforce
Over the last two years, a number of MICTA members participated in this programme and were very positive about the benefits of exposing a sixth form student to their company, having them help deliver projects and contribute to their development.
Could you offer a placement?
We are looking for more members to take part this year and hope you can help us. If you would like to learn more, please contact Owen Cutajar, MICTA Education Liaison, at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 303765
