Wi-Manx takes part in Ballakermeen High School’s ICT career sessions

On Thursday, 14th June, Wi-Manx and other local ICT industry ambassadors took part in Ballakermeen High School’s sessions promoting awareness of ICT careers on Island to Year 9 students.

Thursdays session was well attended by an audience of over 150 Year 9 students during which Wi-Manx’s Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Richard Sum, spoke about his experience in the ICT sector and how he came to work at Wi-Manx, before going on to demonstrate the many career opportunities and routes to these that are open to young people on the Isle of Man.

The sessions were first introduced by the school in 2017 as part of the engineering sector’s ACE programme and some of these have led to students changing their career options to the science, technology, engineering and mathematics related subjects.

Sarah Read, Wi-Manx Marketing Manager, said “We were delighted to be involved with this initiative which provided us with a great opportunity to talk to the students about careers in ICT and opportunities that exist.”

“Wi-Manx is a leading Isle of Man based technology and telecom provider and we have been providing young people with internship and trainee opportunities for a number of years now and we hope to see some of these students again in a few years when they embark on their careers.”
